About Us

Bell Equipment (Germany) has been active since early 2000 as an independent subsidiary of the globally-active construction equipment manufacturer Bell Equipment Ltd. During this time, the creation of a highly efficient distribution and service network and the opening of a dump truck plant took place in the Thuringian city of Eisenach. Constantly flanked by increasing sales figures, Bell Equipment has now become one of the two leading providers on the German dump truck market.
The “Great Unknown
As a manufacturer of construction machinery, Bell Equipment was largely unknown in Germany and Europe at the end of the 1990s. At best, insiders were familiar with the company from South Africa, which, since 1954, had manufactured machinery and equipment for the construction industry as well as agriculture and forestry. In the process, the progression, with entry into full-time production around the middle of the 1970s, was marked by both increasing production figures and significant technological innovations: an example is the world’s first tractor with automatic transmission, which Bell Equipment introduced in 1977.
The prototype Bell dumper, which also had its roots in the successful Bell tractor family, debuted at the end of the 1970s, with tractor and articulated trailer dumper. In 1984 this led to the Bell B25A, the first Bell articulated dump truck with conventional 6x6-design.

From the beginning, Bell dump truck technology was shaped by close cooperation with renowned suppliers in the drive and control sector. This brought about enormous innovative advancements in addition to robustness and reliability, which also assured the Bell articulated dump trucks a larger market share in comparison to some of the 6x6 European manufacturers in the heavy-duty operational areas of mining and extraction.
With the B40, introduced in 1989, and in particular the C-series which was introduced in 1998 and globally marketed for the first time, Bell Equipment finally took its place amongst the world's leading suppliers in the dump truck sector. Through alliances with other manufacturers of construction machinery, including in 1989 with John Deere for North America, Bell Equipment continued to expand its market presence – in the year 2000 the 5000th Bell articulated dump truck was delivered.

Today Bell Equipment is globally-active with around 2100 employees and is represented by subsidiaries and sales partners in over 70 countries. With the placement of some 1300 articulated dump trucks throughout the world each year, Bell Equipment has become the Number 2 supplier in the world market. It also has the largest and most comprehensive dump truck program with its six models of the current D-series
Bell Equipment in Germany
As the third European subsidiary after France (1997) and Great Britain (1998), the Bell Equipment (Germany) GmbH was founded in the beginning of 2000 with headquarters in Hessian Alsfeld. The primary focus at the beginning was primarily on the establishment of a highly efficient distribution and service organisation. Bell Germany launched with 27 vehicles placed and thus had already impressively cornered a market share of about 15 percent in its founding year.
With the introduction of the current D-series at the beginning of 2002, Bell Germany was able to expand its position further in spite of the general stagnation on the German dump truck market. With more than 30 percent of the market share, Bell Germany has firmly established itself at the head of the German dump truck segment (approx. 350 vehicles/year) – even more so in the heavy classes with clear advantages over the market leader.
This success was flanked and supported to a great extent by the establishment of Bell's European customer service centre, the European Logistics Center, in Alsfeld, and through a comprehensive distribution and service cooperation with Liebherr. In addition to the numerous independent Bell partners, the Liebherr Hydraulikbagger GmbH has sold the Bell dump truck through its German distribution and service centres and in Austria. At the same, the Liebherr Mietpartner GmbH has more than 180 Bell vehicles of all performance classes within their European rental fleet and is able to expand their offering through the backing of additional Bell partners.
The proven cooperation with Liebherr was expanded to additional central and eastern European countries, for which Bell Germany was designated as responsible within the Bell-Europe Organisation. For the time being, the highlight of the development in Germany and Europe is the Bell dump truck plant in Eisenach, which was opened at the end of 2003 as the first international Bell production facility.

Closely intertwined with Bell's main production plant in Richards Bay, South Africa, it supplies the European and North American markets with Bell dump trucks "Made in Germany".
